When Braid was released on Xbox LIVE last year, it quickly became one of the top rated downloadable games. It’s hauntingly beautiful visuals, simple and yet ingenious gameplay and it’s melancholic and sublime story quickly took over gamers worldwide. Now, Braid is finally released on the PlayStation Network after a long overdue.
First and foremost, this is the same game that was released last year on Xbox Live and PC. There are no changes whatsoever, except for the inclusion of Trophies. Braid tells the story of a young man named Tim, who has made a terrible mistake which cost him his love. Now he is trying to rescue her from an evil monster. Braid is a simple platformer where you solve puzzles to move forward using a simple time mechanic. The main objective of the game is to obviously solve the puzzles but also to collect pieces of jigsaw puzzles placed throughout the level. Collecting them all within a given level will reveal further information about Tim, the princess, why Tim is going after her and what was the exact nature of Tim’s mistake.
Each level is divided into mini chapters and each of these chapters has its unique set of puzzles to overcome and jigsaw pieces to collect. The story is told through books and it is far from ordinary. It is smart, sad, and metaphorical and most importantly plays out as if the player is reading a novel. It is told simply and elegantly and it gives the game a personality and plays an integral part in the game. The main character, Tim also has the ability to rewind time, which is an essential part of solving the puzzles. Each stage has its own theme and the time ability changes with that. Some levels feature items which are immune to the time reverse effect. This is crucial to collecting some jigsaw parts.

Braid’s arrival on PSN is more than welcome but it would have been nice if there were more levels or some kind of challenge mode along with the main story. But even without them, Braid is a game that every Playstation owner should get and play. Games with such artistic value comes very rarely and anyone who has not played this game before is not only missing out on one of the best game ever created but is also missing a chance to experience pure art.
Although at $ 14.99 is a bit too much for the game, but don’t be shy from spending you money on Braid. It is definitely worth it.
