I know, we don’t usually write about PC games (not to mention comic) – but we couldn’t pass on this one. I was a bit excited when I heard this is coming – I’m a big Starcraft fan and as other Starcraft fans I’m waiting (eagerly) for the second game to arrive, so hearing there was a comicĀ coming out (I’m also a big comics fan) did get me a bit excited.
Starcraft #1 has everything – gun fights, scary zerg and spaceships. It feels a bit like they were trying to put in too much into one issue – so the story was too fast for my taste – but some might like it. For the fast action I rather wait for the game, it really doesn’t go that well with the comic style. Since this is the first issue, it feels like too many characters are introduced and it could get a bit messy. You are not sure who is who and what is what. I had hard time keeping up with all the characters.
The character artwork (especially faces) is bad – some characters looks similar and some change looks from frame to frame. Only at the end I found out the one of the characters was male and not female.
However, with all these flaws – the comics is pretty good. The story is solid, the characters are interesting and it shows a lot of potential. When I wasn’t distracted by the flaws I mentioned above, I did find myself intrigued by the story itself.
I would definitely recommend this one to Starcraft and Sci-Fi fans. I just hope the next issue would be more focused on the story, and less about everything else and that the characters wrt will be more consistent – so I could really enjoy it.
Starcraft #1 is written by Keith Giffen and Simon Furman; Art and cover by Federico Dallocchio; Variant Cover by Shawn Moll and Doug Mahnke

The trailers shows that sequel will be at least as good as original was. But this delaying of game launch seems to be more matter of monetization strategy, not development issues.
