I was one of many lucky gamers who got a beta key for Resistance 2 Beta and had the opportunity to test the game first hand.

When I started to downloading the beta I really didn’t think Resistance 2 as a special game. After installing it and playing a few games I was happy to find out I was wrong.

The first thing you see is the beautiful main menu of the beta featuring none other than Nathan Hale.

The beta offers two different styles of multiplayer: Co-operative and competitive.
In co-operative mode you join other gamers to fight as a team against waves of Chimera coming to kill you. This mode has fewer maps in the beta than competitive mode. In competitive mode you need to fight for yourself or with other players in your team against other players or Chimera. This game mode includes team deathmatch and deathmatch.

Resistance 2 looks great but I think that the hands holding the weapons you see on screen needs another touch – they are extremely white for the humans and fair for the Chimera. The maps and environments are really high detailed and let the player feels like he is in a real battlefield. What really helps to the atmosphere are the explosions and the fire coming from your gun. When a grenade explodes in front of you it is really a spectacular sight. The amount of details in one explosion is unbelievable. The weapons (unlike the hands holding them)  really detailed and are just fun to look at (what actually got me killed from time to time…).

For a beta, I didn’t notice any glitches or bugs so I hope Resistance 2 will have great online game that will have us playing it for lots and lots of hours.

The retail version of Resistance 2 will be out on November 4 – exclusively on the PlayStation 3.
